Marianne B. Gordon Pogue Obituary

Marianne Brenda Gordon Pogue answered the Master's Calland entered into eternal rest on April 15, 2026, at the Seven Oaks Rehabilitation Center. She was the eldest of six children born to the late Willie J. Gordon, Sr. and the late Emma Gray Gordon on June 17, 1949, in Orangeburg, SC. The family moved to Lancaster, SC in 1951.

Brenda accepted Christ at an early and joined First Washington Baptist where she participated in Sunday School, the Baptist Training Union (BTU) and the youth choir. After relocating to Columbia, she joined the First Calvary Baptist Church where she was a member to the Ladies Sunday School Class, the Madrigals Choir, and the Senior Missionary Ministry.

Brenda was educated in the Lancaster County School system and graduated with honors from Barr Street High School in 1967 where she established herself as an outstanding singer. She earned several awards in various competitive events. She attended Winthrop College (now University) and graduated from the university of South Carolina with a Bachelor and Master's degree in Social Work. She retired from the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.

Stating that it was her "calling", she was always willing to help others, especially the elderly. She enjoyed visiting people, taking them to appointments, preparing meals, and "lending an ear". Her greatest joy was the time she spent with her family members and friends. Her willingness to help others was symbolic of the Christian woman that she was. She will be remembered in all our hearts as a loving and caring Child of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David Pogue; son, Joseph M. Young, Jr.; brother, Charles O. Gordon; and her sister, Myra A. Gordon.

Left to cherish these and other memories are her brother Willie J. Gordon, Jr. (Annie), two sisters, Gayle Gordon Frasier (Layton) and Marsha Gordon Rogers (Roy); Stepson Kevin Pogue (Donna); three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a host of cousins; one aunt; nieces; nephews; and friends.
