Marguerite Smith Williams began her life on December 18, 1942, in Columbia, South Carolina, the beloved daughter of the late Nathan and Minnie O. Taylor Smith. She transitioned to her heavenly home at the age of eighty-two, on Monday, March 17, 2025.
Sister Marguerite was educated in the public schools of Richland County and was a graduate of C. A. Johnson High School’s Class of 1961. She was a dedicated housewife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Marguerite was a loyal and dedicated member and lifetime member of Zion Chapel Baptist Church #1. During her tenure at Zion Chapel, she served as a member of the Jubilee Choir and wherever she was needed.
Ms. Marguerite also loved her community serving as a volunteer delivering food to family, friends, and anyone in need. She was a kind, friendly and loving person who cared deeply for her family and friends and has left a legacy of love to all those who loved her and knew her well.
In addition, to her parents, Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband, Vandy Whittaker Williams; and youngest son, Veto V. Williams; brothers, Nathaniel Smith, and William (Billy) Smith; and sisters, Doris Smith Davis, Rudene Smith Burton, and LaVerne V. Smith.
Marguerite leaves to cherish precious memories her daughters, Dr. Shanita D. Williams, Monique L. Williams, and Yawanda Burn; her son, friend and roommate, Antonio Whittaker Williams, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, sisters, brother, cousins, family and friends—all of whom will dearly miss her.
