Margaret Grant Obituary

HER LIFE Mrs. Margaret McDaniel Grant was born on June 11, 1940, in Swansea South Carolina.  She was the youngest daughter of Mr. Willie Lee McDaniel and Mrs. Odell Brannon McDaniel.  Mrs. Grant was married to the Late Mr. Booker T. Grant. Mrs. Grant departed this life on Saturday, July 4, 2020 at Agape House of Hospice, Lexington, South Carolina after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Grant was educated in the public schools of Lexington County.  She attended and graduated from Lakeview High School in West Columbia, South Carolina.

HER GOD Mrs. Grant was a lifelong member of New Life Baptist Church in Cayce, South Carolina. Before she became ill she spent many years serving at New Life making sure all felt at home. She was a servant leader taking pride in making people feel welcome, Mrs. Grant served in many capacities such as a Pulpit Aid President, Kitchen Committee President, member of the New Life Senior Musical Choir, Woman of the Year, a Member of the Trustee Board, and Program Committee President. Mrs. Grant was involved in the Julius Felder coalition and was instrumental in helping to have the name of Pear Street changed to Julius Felder Street. Mrs. Grant also led the committee at the church for the Brookland Cayce High School summer feeding for 2 weeks. 

HER LABOR Mrs. Grant spent over forty (40) years employed at Brookland Cayce High School where she was considered an unofficial resident counselor. Mrs. Grant led a life of service and mentoring.  She was particularly fond of young people and would share her wisdom with all of them who would listen.

HER JOY Mrs. Grant was a passionate and spirited person that loved people and loved life.  For so many who knew her well, she was a “ram in the bush.” She was always present to help fill a need. She reveled in entertaining and sharing her knowledge.  Margaret loved cooking and watching people enjoy themselves.

HER DEPARTED Mrs. Grant was preceded in death by her husband Booker T. Grant; three sisters, Willie Mae Williams, Florence Mildred Wiley, and Letha Harriet Beasley and; two brothers, Joe Thomas and Leroy McDaniel.

HER MEMORY Mrs. Grant leaves to cherish her memory nieces, Betty (Lawrence) Melvin, Ella (Jacob) Smith, Wanda Wiley, Richardene Williams (Johanna), Anita (Paul) Dixon, and Nephew, Franklin (Rhonda) Wiley; great-nieces and great-nephews; great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews; a very special friend and confidant, Mrs. Ella Rose Gladney; a host of other loving relatives, and friends.
