Mr. Luther McFadden Jr. was born September 9, 1949, in Turbeville, SC. He was the beloved and oldest of eight children born to the late Luther McFadden Sr. and Eliza McFadden. On Thursday, April 10, 2025, Luther departed this earthly life for eternal rest with God at PRISMA Richland Hospital, Columbia, SC.
“Snowman” as he was called by his CB handle, “Pa Pa” by his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and “Uncle Boo” by his nieces and nephews, was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. He was a Professional Tire Serviceman.
Luther was married to Joyce McFadden, and to their union, three children were born; two daughters, Katrina Heard and Lucinda McFadden, and son, Gary McFadden Sr. They taught their children to always put God first in all you do! They taught togetherness, forgiveness, how to love through difficult times, and how to care and share. Most importantly, they taught the importance of prayer.
Growing up he was baptized and attended Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church of Turbeville, SC. Upon moving to Columbia, SC he became a faithful member of Haskell Heights Progressive Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverend Charles Epps Sr.
Luther lived a full and happy life. He was an amazing father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was very protective, always being a barrier and armor of protection for his children, grandchildren, and family. He had a heart of gold and believed in family first. Even if you were a friend or stranger, he considered you family. Luther was a God-fearing man. He shared his love for God with everyone he met. He knew the bible and loved to give scriptures of encouragement. His loyalty and compassion were beyond what words could describe. Luther always put the needs of others before himself always opening up his home and lending a helping hand to those in need. He was a Pittsburg Steelers fan and loved to be on his CB. Luther was an avid fisherman and loved to get on the water for a good catch. Everyone knows how he loved that guitar. He loved playing and putting on shows for his family, friends, and Facebook! He was always the head and provider of his family. He worked hard to make sure he could take care of himself and his family. He was a very strong man! He was loved by everyone he met, leaving an impact that would last a lifetime. He always let us know that he was not a perfect man, but he was a praying man, forgiving man and loving man. Luther loved his community where he lived for forty-five years and was known as “The Mayor of the Booker Heights Community.”
In addition to his wife and parents, Luther was preceded in death by his sisters, Gaynell McFadden and Edrena McFadden; nephew, Willie James; niece Sheila McFadden; sisters-in-law, Sara Glover, Vergie Lee Heard and Florence Austin; brothers-in-law, Doug McDowell, Alphonso Glover, Kenneth Deas, Luther Wallace Heard Sr., John Churchill Heard, George Earl Heard, Thomas Heard and William Heard.
