Lottie Mae Nelson Obituary

Lottie Mae Mender Nelson was born on January 28, 1936 in Columbia, SC and departed this earthly life on May 16, 2019.

Lottie Mae Nelson attended Booker T. Washington High School. After high school she held employment at Pineland Mental Health Institution. Later she managed a child development center in Illesheim, Germany and was a supervisor at the Post Exchange, Fort Bragg, NC. She retired as a manager from Fort Jackson Post Exchange after 22 years. From there she worked at Nurses R Us. She was the owner and operator of Jomacie’s Cafeteria.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, the late Joseph and Rosetta Mender; her son, Roy Bernard Nelson; grandson, C.J. Nelson; brother, Eddie Clay (Freddie Mae) Mender; sisters, Carolina Ann Berry, and Joann Menter Ashford; and one niece, Loretta Mender Bovain.

Lottie Mae Nelson leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 54 years, Joseph Nelson; daughters, Vivian Hargrave and Rose Sherrie Davis; seven grandchildren, Calvin Davis, Jr., Rebekah Davis, James Tyrone Hargrave, Antione Hargrave, Joe Hargrave, Courtney Nelson, and Andre Nelson; 16 great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren; three brothers, John (Viola) Mender, Minister Samuel (Carolyn) Wolfe, and Alfonzo (Louise) Wolfe; one sister, Fredine McNeal; brother-in-law, Thomas (Gloria) Nelson; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Bligen; a special niece that she raised, Cynthia Garrett; son-in-law, Calvin Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, another loving relatives and friends.
