Lorenzo Gunter Obituary

Mr. Lorenzo Gunter was born on September 22, 1958, in Eastover, South Carolina, the beloved son of Loretta Harris Gunter and the late Willie Edward Gunter Sr.  His spirit was released from its worn-out shell, and he entered eternal rest on Saturday, July 4, 2026.

He was educated in the public school system of Richland County, South Carolina. He graduated from Lower Richland High, Class of 1976. Shortly after graduation he was employed with Anchor Continental for many years and later worked various jobs in the construction industry.

Lorenzo loved singing! At an early age, it was clear that he had a special gift. Whether he was singing in the Shiloh A.M.E. Church choir or at family gatherings, his voice had a unique way of touching the hearts of everyone who heard him. Despite the shadows cast by his later struggles, he never forgot about God and his love for singing gospel music.

Lorenzo enjoyed reading the Bible and watching television. His favorite shows were National Geographic or a good western movie. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends. On Sundays, if he was not home, he was with one of his best friends, Henry Lee, and his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Edward Gunter Sr.; maternal grandparents, Ed and Louise Powell Harris; paternal grandparents, Willie H. and Naomi R. Pringle Gunter; aunts, Doris Harris, Eliza (George) Nixon, Ozella (Joseph) Nathan, and Willie Maree Harris; uncles, John H. (Annie Mae) Gunter, Richard A. (Diane) Gunter, and Joseph Gunter.

He leaves to cherish fond memories his loving and caring mother, Loretta Gunter; brothers, Harold (Sandra) Gunter, Ulysses (Diane) Williams, both of Eastover, South Carolina; and Willie E. (Sandra) Gunter Jr. of Hopkins, South Carolina; sisters, Joyce (Robert) Gwyn of Stafford, Virginia, and Charlene (Farrell) Nicia of Columbia, South Carolina. He is also survived by his aunts, Edna Gray, Katherine (Wilbert) Harris Jordan; Dorothy Davis and Thelma (William) Dwight, all of Eastover, South Carolina; uncles Ulysses Harris of Carson, California and Odell (Doris) Harris of Eastover, South Carolina; great-aunts, Ada Ruth Hopkins of Hopkins, South Carolina and Carolyn Brunson, Augusta, Georgia, as well as a host of nephews, nieces, and other loving relatives. His memory will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Though he is no longer physically with us, Lorenzo made a lasting impact. Some described Lorenzo as having a heart of gold. Others said he was always willing to lend a helping hand. Please know his mom and siblings will hold on to these memories as we navigate through life without him.

My son, our brother- May You Rest In Peace and Rise In Glory!
