Mr. Lonnie James Cheeks Sr. affectionately known as “L.J.” was born on March 7, 1942, the beloved son of the late Thomas E. Cheeks Sr. and Janie Harris Cheeks. He departed this earthly life on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Lexington Medical Center, in West Columbia, South Carolina.
Lonnie Sr. was a graduate of C.A Johnson High School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Military. He was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Eula J. Cheeks.
L.J. was largely devoted to entrepreneurship and became the owner of Killian Auto Body Shop. He also worked as an Insurance Adjuster and for Jimmy River's Auto Shop. He was a proud member of the Auto Car Club, which he enjoyed.
Lonnie attended Apostle Holiness Church as a child and as an adult. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who will be miss by all those who loved and knew him.
In addition to his parents, Lonnie was also proceeded in death by a sister, Eleanore Cheeks-Southgate.
L.J. is survived by his son, Lonnie J. (Pamelar) Cheeks Jr. of Columbia, SC; three (3) daughters, Sharon Cheeks, Janice Cheeks Dufrend, both of Windsor, CT; and Michelle A. Bookhart of Fayetteville, NC; his brother, Thomas E. Cheeks, Jr.; sisters, Margaret Cheeks (Nathaniel) Edmond, Sandra Cheeks-Jones (Darryl Walker), and Patricia Cheeks-Mazone; and his whilom sister-in-law, Corrine Cheeks; seven (7) grandchildren, Kensha Smith Cheeks, Isham Smith Cheeks, Loni J. Cheeks, E-monnie Cheeks, Shatika Yeager, Alexis Yeager, and Mason Dufrend; seven (7) great-grandchildren, a host of nephews, nieces and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss him.
