Liza Mae Carter Obituary

Liza Mae Carter was born on November 12, 1944, the beloved daughter of the late George Middleton and Victoria Mosley. Liza departed this earthly life on the morning of Thursday, October 30, 2025, in Columbia, South Carolina.

Liza was educated in the Berkley County Public School System where she attended Russellville High School in St. Stephen, South Carolina. After high school, Liza left South Carolina and went to live in New York where she met and fell in love with Morris Carter. They were united in Holy Matrimony and became one on February 22, 1974, and their union of love was blessed with the births of two lovely daughters Devin and April.

Throughout the years Liza Mae had many jobs, however, the one job that was nearest and dearest to her heart was being a caregiver for children. Liza Mae helped to raised so many children while she was living in New York and continued doing what she loved when she and her husband decided to relocate their family back to South Carolina in 1995.

Liza was a faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Bronx, New York. After relocating to South Carolina she became a dedicated member at Bethlehem Baptist Church College Place in Columbia. Liza was a very loyal and faithful member to her church. When she couldn't be in church physically, she made sure she stayed connected to the Church and the people she loved.

Liza loved people, and she loved putting smiles on people’s faces through cooking and sharing meals with those she loved, joking and dancing.

In addition to her parents, Liza was also preceded in death by her husband, Morris Carter; brother, Charlie Middleton; and sisters, AnnieBell Clark, Ida Middleton, Elease Gadson, Jannie Bell Wright, and Virginia Christian.

Liza leaves to cherish her memories her loving daughters,  Devin Monique Carter, and April Carter; adoring granddaughter, Nevaeh Nicole Carter, all of Columbia, SC; her brother, David (Jannie) Middleton of Baldwin, NY; and sister, Ruthie (Herbert) Doval of Saint Stephens, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss her.
