Linda Walker Jackson, affectionally called by many relatives and friends “Don, Donella and Linda”, a trailblazer in nursing, a devoted wife, beloved relative and friend, peacefully was called from this life to another of eternal peace and joy on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at the age of ninety (90) in Columbia, South Carolina.

Linda was born on October 10, 1935, the beloved daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth Ford Walker and Norman Walker, Sr. and sister to her only sibling, the late Norman Walker, Jr., in the Plantersville Community of Georgetown, S.C. Due to the sudden death of her mother after her birth,  Linda was reared in the home of her grandparents where she was deeply rooted in love, humility, and faith.

At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.  Linda was taught and encouraged by example to  give reverence to God in all things. She attended church and Sunday School faithfully at St. Mark AME Church in the Plantersville Community.

After graduating in 1954 from Howard High School in Georgetown, SC, she moved to Columbia, SC, attended nursing school and married the love of her life, Paul Jackson, Jr. in 1959. Linda joined her husband at Second Nazareth Baptist Church where she enjoyed attending and participating in church school, bible study, worship services, and where her services, resources, gifts and skills were beneficial in various ministries.

This warm quiet concerned citizen participated in a noteworthy organization in her neighborhood that addressed community concerns and improvement through the Sheriff Department Association educating the citizens ways to maintain a safe and clean neighborhood. The adults and children in her neighborhood respected her well. She was a dedicated and reliable nurse working at Columbia Hospital and later at Dorn Veterans Hospital in Columbia, S.C. Over the years, she received numerous awards and commendations during her 39 years of employment and service until she retired in 1997.

Linda Donella Walker Jackson will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends: stepdaughter, Catherine (Clarence) Smith of Columbia, SC; two step-granddaughters, Stephanie Jackson and Bridgit Melton of Columbia, SC; one step-great grandson, Dashawn Thomas of Columbia, SC; sister-in-law, Geraldine Walker of Conway, SC;  nieces, Alissa W. (Ross) Spears, Gale Walker, Cynthia Walker and Sylvia W. (Michael)  Woodard; nephews, Norma Earl Walker and Michael (Denise) Walker; her godchild and lived in home caregiver, Jacqueline Walker (Eddie) Lawrence, church mentor, Lavonnia McKnight, a dear cousin, Vervatine Alston Reid; and a host of loving cousins, and other relatives and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly
