Lawrence Smith Jr. was born March 16, 1954, the beloved son of the late Lawrence, Sr., and Eval Fielder Smith. He departed this earthly life on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.
Larry, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, grew up in Spartanburg County, where he graduated from James F. Byrnes High School in the Class of 1971. Upon graduating he enlisted in the United States Army where he served for several years. Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge, he was employed with the Brickyard from which he retired in 1997, after many years of dedicated service.
Lawrence was currently a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Larry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother uncle and friend. Though he is no longer physically with us, he has left a legacy of love and devotion to all those who loved and knew him.
In addition to hie parents, he was also preceded in death by his siblings, Jo Eva Rice, and Willie Earl Smith.
Those who are lovingly cherishing fond and precious memories of Larry are his loving and devoted wife, Jessie Mae Smith; children, Bettina (Darryl) McLaughlin and Bevan Johann (Shawn) Holston; bonus daughters, Claudia Mickle and Miriam Jacobs; goddaughters, Nicole Hatten; grandchildren, Breanca Reddick, Jamie Jacobs, Jada Holston, Brenton McLaughlin, Jalen Holston, Jeslina Holston, and LaNaysha Harris; step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Jakobe Scarborough, Cedrick Reddick, Jr, Alyssa Briggman, Noah Juimper, Nylah Jumper, and Ceraya Thomas; brothers, Kenneth (Bernice) Smith, and Robert Lee (Shirley) Smith; sisters, Lola Lee Smith, Juilia Ann Satterwhite, and Linda Gail Smith; a host of nephews, nieces and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss him.
