Laura Jackson Dunlap was born April 19, 1933, in Hopkins, South Carolina, the beloved daughter of the late John Jackson Jr. and Lula Belle Jackson. On Monday, October 3, 2022, Laura, affectionately known as “Doonie” departed this earthly life to entered into eternal rest.
Laura attended the public schools in Richland County District One. She was employed with Richland County Schools where she was employed in Food Services, where she was known for her famous cinnamon rolls and spaghetti. After more than thirty (30) years of dedicated service she retired. Her joy in life was staying at home, caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and working in her fields.
Laura was united in Holy Matrimony to Frank “Bonat” Dunlap, with whom she shared life’s ups and downs, joys, and pains for 58 blessed years.
Laura was a dedicated member of Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church. During her tenure, she served on the Senior and Unified Gospel Choirs.
Laura was a faithful provider for her family. Within that small frame, she was a powerful woman of God, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother.
Mrs. Dunlap was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Dunlap Sr.; three daughters, Barbara Dunlap, Bernadette Wilson and Rachel Jerry; one grandson, Aaron Jones, Jr.; three brothers, John Jackson, Robert Jackson and Aaron Jackson; sister, Rosetta Jackson; three brothers-in-law, Richard Sims, Willie McCollough and Willie B. Moody; and three sisters-in-law, Rachel Jackson, Almita Brown and Betty Jean Jackson.
Those left to cherish Laura’s fond and precious memories are her three loving sons, Edward Dunlap, Frank (Deidre) Dunlap, and Christopher Dunlap, all of Hopkins, SC; three loving daughters, Annie Mae Dunlap, Patricia (Timothy) Delts and Lucretia (Robert) Simons, all of Hopkins, SC; two sons-in-law, Lester Wilson, Sr., and Dennis Jerry, Sr., both of Hopkins, SC; two brothers, George Jackson, and Henry (Leah) Jackson, both of Hopkins, SC; seven sisters, Angelina Jackson, Corrine (Kippy) Smith, both of New Jersey; Sarah (John) Randolph, Leanner (Curtis) Nelson, Della McCollough, Hattie Mae Sims and Geneva Moody, all of Hopkins, SC; twenty-four (24) grandchildren; forty-two (42) great-grandchildren; and two (2) great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom join the family in sharing the grief caused by her departure, but rejoice that she is now with the Lord.
