Larry Washington was born April 23, 1948, in Columbia, South Carolina, the beloved son of the late Archie Washington Jr. and Cora Askew Reese. On Saturday, July 11, 2026, he departed this earthly life to be with the Lord while at The Medical University of South Carolins (MUSC) in Charleston, South Carolina.
Larry was educated in the public schools of Richland County where he was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. Upon graduating, he joined the United States Navy serving as a sailor from 1968 - 1972.
Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge he obtained his certification in printing from Columbia Regional Technical Center. He was then employed for many years at Fort Jackson as a printer operator. Larry was later employed with the City of Columbia Water Division as a water technician, from where he retired after many years of dedicated service.
Mr. Washington was a faithful member of Bible Way Church of Atlas Road where he served in the Usher’s Ministry. Larry had a beautiful soul and loved to dress; you rarely saw him without his suit, hat and shoes. He always had a smile on his face and enjoyed talking with others. He was a fierce defender of his family, very generous, and showed them love and compassion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Loretta Laury, Mary Ann Washington, and Joanne Robinson. Though he is no longer physically with us, he has left a legacy of love to all those who loved and knew him.
Those who are cherishing fond and precious memories of Larry are his loving and devoted wife, Daisy Washington; his loving children, LaTarsha Young and Larry Washington, Jr.; precious grandchildren, Lexis Drayton, Savion Haynes, Taeshia Haynes, Jordan Young, Gabrielle Young and Lawson Washington; caring brothers, Roy (Gladys) Washington, Archie (Mary) Washington, Franklin Washington and Donell Washington; loving sisters, Christina Washington; a host of nephews, nieces, and other loving relatives an dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss him, but rejoice that he is now with the Lord.
