LaMonica S. Riley Scipio Obituary

LaMonica Shuntay Riley Scipio, a loving mother, daughter, sister, and dedicated friend, was born July 27, 1977, in Columbia, South Carolina, the beloved daughter of Melvin Scipio, Sr. and Carolyn L. Riley She transitioned from her earthly life on Friday, January 23, 2026, at the age of forty-eight.

A believer in Jesus Christ, LaMonica’s life was defined by her love for God, her family, and her wide circle of friends. She was a faithful member of God’s Church of Deliverance. 

She was a proud graduate of C. A. Johnson High School’s Class of 1995, where her athleticism shone brightly on the Varsity Basketball court and in many other sports.

LaMonica dedicated a chapter of her life to the service of her country, proudly serving in the United States Army as an 88M (Motor Transport Operator) from 1995 until her Honorable Discharge in 2003. She carried a spirit of professionalism and leadership throughout her distinguished civilian career, which included managerial roles at Pizza Hut, Verizon and the United States Postal Service. Most recently, she served as a valued Supervisor at the Department of Motor Vehicles, a position she held since July 2022.

Beyond her career, LaMonica was the heart of her home, finding immense joy in cooking and entertaining family and friends. A true enthusiast, she was a dedicated member of a local Pittsburgh Steelers Fan Group and a huge sports fan overall. Her warmth and ability to connect with people created a bond that will be cherished by all who knew her.

LaMonica was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Edith Scipio; her maternal grandparents, Nathaniel Davis, Sr. and Retha Mae (Riley) Davis; and her paternal uncle, Frederick Davis, Sr.

She leaves a lasting legacy of love and precious memories to be cherished by her children, Kenneth Stewart, III and JaDarese Stewart; her parents, Melvin Scipio and Carolyn L. Riley; grandfather, Thomas Williams; five brothers, Melvin Scipio, Jr., Michael Scipio, Monte Lloyd, Shane Scipio, and Frank Walker, III; and four sisters, Court Brown, Luciano Scipio, Rachel Geiger, and Tanico S. Riley; host of loving uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends, all of whom will dearly miss her spirited presence and unwavering kindness.
