Life has single beginning, but a multiplicity of endings. We do not know the day, the hour, nor the minute, nor do we know the way of our departure, nor do we know the mystery in the works of the Master, who is too knowledgeable to make mistakes with his own creation, man.
Kevin J. Garvin was born on January 27, 1972, the oldest of six children born to Bonnie G. Simpkins. With heaven in view, Kevin Garvin entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
Kevin was educated in the public schools of Richland School District One where he attended Arden Elementary, W. A. Perry Middle School, and was a 1990 graduate of C. A. Johnson High School. The start of his journey of life opened doors of endless opportunities where he crossed paths with people from all different walks of life. Kevin was a man of integrity, faith, and stood on his principles and his values that were taught at an early age. His faith and family shaped him into the man everyone knew and grew to loved. A man that was a “Jack of all trades.” He was Part CEO of “Help A Man Out, LLC,” a Chef, Businessman, Entrepreneur, Advisor, and a true friend. He will be remembered for always starting his day with a motivational text to all those he cared about the most.
“KJ” as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was a man that could light up a room. His presence made you feel good inside. Kevin was the type of man who spoke with words of wisdom. He never made you feel less than a person. He was surrounded by people who loved him and respected him. He had a solid relationship with his mother who was his number one best girl in the world. The bond he had with his family was undeniable; and the relationship he had with his siblings was unbreakable. His brothers were his ribs and his backbone. The family circle will continue to be tight and will never be unshakable, nor divided. When he wasn’t working or doing for others, he would enjoy watching sports with friends and family being a true Dallas Cowboys Fan, also lighting a card game on fire with his hot hands from time to time. The special moments and memories he created with his son JD, and his brother Rudy, can never be erased or forgotten.
He leaves cherished precious memories to his son, Joshua Dinkins of Columbia, SC; his loving mother, Bonnie G. Simpkins; his devoted brothers, Ulysses Simpkins, Andreus Simpkins, Asher Simpkins all of Columbia, SC, and Stacey Garvin of Charlotte, NC; loving sisters, Ashley Simpkins of Columbia, SC, and Aspen Simpkins of Columbia, SC; five nephews, Jobe Simpkins of Atlanta, GA, Sir Malachi Simpkins of Charlotte, NC; Jaden Simpkins of Columbia, SC, Andreus (KO) Simpkins of Columba, SC, and Amari Simpkins of Columbia, SC.; three nieces, Zhane Simpkins of Atlanta, GA, Imani Simpkins of Columbia, SC, and Weslyn Simpkins of Columbia, South Carolina; two aunts, Francina Daniels of Columbia, SC, and Rose Miller of Decatur, GA; Bonus Brothers, Ramo, Rah Rah, Troy, Veric, Lando, and Rudy Wilson; special cousins, Jennifer (Almond) Bullard of Lithonia, GA, Rotunda Harvey of Decatur, GA, Lisa Lowe of Decatur, GA, Monica Sewer of Charlotte, NC, Nathaniel Daniels of Augusta, GA, Thaddeus Daniels of Columbia, SC, Terrance Daniels of Conyers, GA, Melody Jackson of Atlanta, GA, Jeanine Beverly of Gulf Port, MS, and Rudolph Scott of San Antonio, TX; along with a host of loving cousins, other relatives, and dear friends, all of whom will sorely miss his earthly presence.
