Keith Norbret Derrick was born September 13, 1963, in Lexington, South Carolina, the beloved son of the late Charles and Mary Jane Trowell Derrick. Keith entered eternal life on Thursday, January 26, 2023, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Keith was educated in the Lexington One School District where he graduated from Lexington High School. He continued his education at Benedict College earning a BA Degree in Music. He did further studies at Howard University, in Washington, DC. Keith was employed for 30 years as a Music Teacher, both in Washington DC Public School System and Prince George County Public School System, in Maryland. He also served as Minister of Music at several churches in the DMV Area, including Metropolitan A.M.E, Wesley Union, Brentwood Baptist, and Spottswood Churches. Before relocating to Washington, he was the musician at his home church, Spring Hill A.M.E Church in Lexington, SC.
Music and working with choirs were Keith’s first love. He also loved traveling when time permitted. Though he is no longer physically with us, his loving and kind spirit will forever live in the hearts and lives of all who loved and knew him.
In addition to his parents, Keith was also preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Derrick; his paternal grandparents, Charles Sr. and Belle Dent Derrick; and his maternal grandparents, Charlie & Iva Mae Trowell; and his maternal great-grandmother, Pearl Rawl.
