Julia Monroe Elam Obituary

Julia Monroe Philpot Elam was born June 11, 1928, in McCormick County, South Carolina. She was the beloved daughter of the late Harper Monroe and Nancy Young Philpot, and the widow of the late Wilson Elam. She departed this earthly life for eternity with the Lord on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at her residence in Clarks Hill, South Carolina.

Julia attended Bethany Church School in Clarks Hill, SC. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Wilson Elam with whom she spent many years of love and devotion before he went home to be with the Lord.

Mrs. Elam was a long time, faithful, and devoted member of Bethany Baptist Church. “Mrs. Monroe” as she was affectionately called,  enjoyed visiting the Senior Citizens Group in McCormick, South Carolina, where she loved crafting, and field trips with her fellow seniors. She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, who loved her family dearly and enjoyed sharing family genealogy with those near and far. Though she is no longer physically with us, her loving and kind spirit will forever live in the hearts and lives of all who loved and knew her.

In addition to her husband and parents, Julia was also preceded in death by a son, Wilson Elam, Jr.; and grandsons, Dexter and Mathias Elam.

Those who are cherishing Julia’s fond and precious memories are her loving son, James E. Elam of North Augusta, SC; and loving daughters, Julia M. Elam of Harlem GA, Mattie Elam, Nancy L. Boozer, both of Clarks Hill, SC, and Cathryn Foster of Augusta, GA; grandchildren, Desarea (Carolyn) Ray, Ashley (Shavon) Irby, Sonya R. Patterson, and Thomas E. Patterson III; great-grandchildren, Alexis Elam, Jasmine Elam, Mister Ray and Addison Irby; one great great-granddaughter, Alana Elam; extended grands, The Fosters; and a host of nephews, nieces, and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom join the family in sharing the grief caused by her departure, but rejoice that she is now with the Lord.
