Julia Lee Smith

Julie Lee Smith was born May 20, 1947, in Richland County, South Carolina. She was the beloved daughter of the late Medicus and Hattie Mae Stevenson Smith. She departed this earthly life on Sunday, November 5, 2023, in Columbia, South Carolina.

Julia was educated in the public schools of Richland County. She was employed with the University of South Carolina from which she retired in 2011 after over thirty years of dedicated service.

During her free time, she enjoyed planting in her garden, cooking and going to church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Though she is no longer physically with us, her loving and kind spirit will forever live in the hearts and lives of all who loved and knew her.

In addition to her parents, Julia was also preceded in death by her son, Mike Smith; daughter, Talashia Turner; three sisters, Gennie Jones, Marie Smith, and Patricia Smith.

Those who are cherishing fond and precious memories of Julia are her devoted and loving sons, Roy Smith of Columbia, South Carolina; Jeff (Brenda) Smith, Sr. of Cleveland, Ohio, and Demetrius Smith of Columbia, South Carolina; and her daughter, Shavia Jones of Columbia, South Carolina; brother, Ernest Smith Jr.; and sister, Rosa Lee Smith both of Columbia, SC; nine grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss her.
