Joseph Hunter, Jr. Obituary

Joseph  “Joe”  Hunter Jr., a free-spirited man, departed this earthly realm on January 27, 2024, in Columbia, South Carolina. He was and will forever remain 57 years of age.  Joe was born on November 18, 1966, to Barbara Hunter and the late Joseph Hunter Sr. here in Columbia, South Carolina. He was a Son, Big Brother, Father, Cousin, and friend to all that knew him.

The Big Brother. . .

Joe, Stephanie, Terri, and Tim were inseparable siblings. They grew up together in a 2-parent household. They were always together, and Joe was the leader of the Pack. The four of them went everywhere together. When they would enter a room, the room light up! Even though they were born at different times they looked like quadruplets. So proud of his siblings, never uttering a single bad word to or against them. Without a doubt Joe loved each of them.

His way or the highway . . .

Joseph was a towering strong-willed individual that lived life on his own terms. Even as a young child, he was going to do things his way or no way at all. Joseph was a man that enjoyed the sound of laughter, music, and most of all he loved his football team “The 49ers.” One thing was for sure, and two things were for certain, if Joe could, he would but if he couldn’t, he wouldn’t and lastly if he can’t it was because… he ain’t. He simply would not. Maybe it was the Scorpio in him.

Free Spirit . . .

Whenever or wherever the wind blew, Joseph was sure to find his way. Playing to the beat of his own drum, no worries, and no fear. Joe never met a stranger. If he was your friend, he was a friend until the very end.

Accomplishment and Promotion . . .

Passionate about his career and his Employer Roses Department Store, Joe had just received a fantastic promotion to the Shipping and Receiving Supervisor, a little before his untimely departure.

Family that will greet him . . .

Joseph was preceded in death by his Father, Joseph Hunter Sr.; his grandmother, Louise S. Hunter; grandfather, Landrus E. Hunter Sr; aunts, Gracie “Chief” Hunter, Margaret Hunter Muse; uncle, Benjamin Hunter, and Great Uncle, Willie Eugene James Hunter a.k.a “Unk.”

Family that will keep his memories alive . . .

Those who are left to cherish Joseph’s fond and precious memories are his mother, Barbara Hunter; loving sisters, Stephanie Hunter, Terri Harley; and his devoted brother, Timothy Hunter; beautiful daughter, Nakisha Jeter; three grandchildren, Anesti, Lyric, and Karmelo; uncle, Landrus E. (Eloise) Hunter, Jr.; aunt, Dorothy Hunter McCloud; and many nieces, nephews, cousins along with a host of other relatives and close friends both near and far who will truly miss him but find comfort in knowing that he is now with the Lord.
