Joseph Freeman Obituary

Mr. Joseph J. Freeman, Sr. was born March 22, 1947, in Columbia South Carolina, the beloved son of the late Pete Freeman and Theodora Young.  He departed this life to be with the Lord on Friday,  March 17, 2023, at Pepper Hill Center.

Affectionately called “Joe” by family and friends, James was educated in the public schools of Richland County and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Columbia, South Carolina.

He was united in holy matrimony to Delores Freeman-Dreher, and to their union three children were born.

As a young man, he learned to work hard and to take on whatever job was available to support his family, he spent over 25 years of working for Olympia Mill Company.

Joseph was such a giving person who constantly looked for ways to bless others in life. He was truly the definition of a selfless person because he always put others ahead of his own needs. Most importantly, he was a resilient, strong man of faith who always placed the Lord as the head of his life. He will continue to remain with us through our memories, and the laughs that he forced us to endure whether we were in the mood for them, or not. He has left the pain, but he also left each of us, and we will never be the same. Though he is no longer with us, we will continue to hurt, but will always remember that he was a dedicated son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who will be greatly missed by those who loved and knew him.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was also preceded in death his sons, Remmell and Joseph Freeman; Daughter; Shandora Q. Freeman; brothers, Tyrone, and Romeo Freeman; and a sister, Jeanette Freeman.

Those who are cherishing fond and precious memories of Joe are his, grandsons, Deswon Lide, Joseph Freeman III and Detrick Freeman; granddaughters, Malaysia Freeman, Dian Freeman, Aniesha Freeman, Shania Fuller, Shamaya Fuller, London Fuller, Skylar Gholson and Sakyia Gholson; daughter-in-law, Stacey Entzminger Freeman; nephews, JC Washington, Frank Cyrus and Jerome Sligh; niece, Stephanie Sands; and a host of other loving relatives, and caring friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
