Johnnie Lee Hammonds was born December 23, 1957, in Columbia, South Carolina, the beloved son of the late Karine and Delsea Stevenson. He was called from labor to reward on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at White Oak Nursing Home in Newberry, South Carolina.
Johnnie moved to Swansea, South Carolina at a young age. He always loved learning about new things. He attended and graduated from Swansea High School and continued his education at South Carolina State College where he attended three years until he entered the United States Air Force. After serving for three years he was honorably discharged and began working for ATT of South Carolina for several years. A businessman at heart, Johnnie began his own company where he worked in contract painting and flooring, a job that he loved and enjoyed doing for others. He continued his work until his health began to decline.
Johnnie loved being in the presence of others at church. He enjoyed music with gospel music being his favorite.
Though he was no longer physically with us, he has left a legacy of love to all those who loved and knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Hammonds; and sister, Marjari Jackson.
He leaves to cherish precious memoires to his loving wife, Sandra J. Hammonds of the home; two step children, Dwight Johnson of Cassatt, SC, and Juanita Johnson of Chicago, Il; siblings, Wilbor (Lottie) Hammonds of Columbia, SC; Wendy (Bostick) Scott of Columbia, SC; Gail (Charles) Adams of Gaston, SC; Sandra (Ricky) Lykes of West Columbia, SC, and Elizabeth Hammonds of West Columbia, SC; brothers-law, Perish (Kim) of Elgin, SC, Eric, Neal, both of Connecticut, Brent (Eboni) of Mississippi, and Daniel (Methreann) of Florida; sisters-in-law, Margaret, Sylvia, Natalie, Arnathn (Eugene) all of Whitesville, NC; nine (9) step-grandchildren; seventeen (17) step-great-grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss him.
