John Wesley Fullwood, 76, of Sumter, South Carolina, entered eternal rest on March 28, 2026, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. He was born May 9, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late David Emory Fullwood and Roseline Hawthorne Fullwood.
John proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War as a chef, cook, and baker, and was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. His service carried him across many parts of the world, and he was assigned to the USS Lowry (DD-770), USS Donald B. Beary (FF-1085), USS Newport News (CA-148), and USS Bowen (FF-1079).
A man of deep faith, John was an ordained minister, counselor, and founder of Rainbow Harvest Ministries. He was a devoted member of Full Gospel Church and ministered through prayer, outreach, and music, sharing God's Word with love and compassion.
John valued education and personal growth. He earned an Associate in Christian Studies (ACS) and pursued studies in Culinary Arts, Pastry Arts, and Hotel Restaurant Management. He also attended the School of Ministry, received an honorary degree, and completed training as a flight attendant and counselor.
He enjoyed cooking, fishing, gardening, and creating new recipes, and was known for his warm spirit, generosity, and dedication to helping others. He often reflected on his favorite scripture: "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32).
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepdaughter, Samantha Robin Russele, who preceded him in death earlier that same month; his brother, David Fullwood; his sister, Carol Fullwood-Hepburn; and his nephews, Leon Fullwood and Gregg Campbell.
He leaves to cherish his devoted wife, Doris Gaskins Fullwood; his sister, Janice Fullwood Campbell; his beloved in-laws; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
The family deeply appreciates all prayers, love, and support during this time.
