Joann J. Cook Obituary

Mrs. JoAnn J. Cook began her life on March 8, 1953, in Columbia, South Carolina,  the beloved daughter of the late Nathan Smith and Minnie O. Taylor Smith. JoAnn transitioned to her heavenly home on Friday, February 20, 2026, at the age of seventy-two (72)  in Columbia, SC.

JoAnn was educated in the public schools of Richland County and was a graduate of C. A. Johnson High School Class of 1969. She was a dedicated employee of BC Components for 19 years.

JoAnn was not ashamed to tell others that she loved the Lord. She was a loyal and dedicated member at Rhema Word Restoration Ministries, Columbia, SC where she attended faithfully until her health declined.

JoAnn was a kind, gentle spirit who never met a stranger. She brought joy wherever she went; and  had wonderful sense of humor and was often the life of the party, making people laugh and feel welcome. She also showed her love through cooking, always preparing meals for church functions, family, friends, or anyone in need. In other words, she found joy in serving others. As in I John 4:8 “God is Loved.” She epitomized that verse by showing her love for absolutely everyone.

JoAnn was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, who was a lively, friendly, and loving person who cared for her family deeply, and took pride in knowing that her family loved her, and she loved them.  She has left a legacy of love to all those who loved and knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Cook; brothers, William “Billy” Smith, and Nathaniel Smith; sisters, LaVerne V. Smith, Rudene S. Burton, Doris S. Davis, and Marguerite S. Williams.

JoAnn leaves to cherish her precious memories her son, Anthony “Percy” (Loleta Boulware) Smith; daughter, Rhonda “Rhonda Kay” Jones (Xzarius “Zeb”) Ryans; grandchildren, Ashley Kelley, Breon Moses; seven great grandchildren; brother, Otis (Janie) Smith; sisters, Shirley Smith, Kathy (Augustus) Covington, Cynthia (Bernard) Washington, and Valerie Smith, all of Columbia; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends all of whom will dearly miss her.
