Joan O. Legere Obituary

Joan Olga Legere  was born May 1, 1942,  in Barbados the beloved daughter of the late Kenneth and Doreen Bancroft. She passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9, 2026, at the age of eighty-three.

At an early age, Joan and her family moved to Trinidad and Tobago. Upon moving to Trinidad, Joan met and married Bert Legere. Bert and Joan went on to have three children, Yvette Legere, Claudette Legere, and Paulette Legere.  Joan and her family later moved to the United States of America where they made their home in Boston, Massachusetts. While living in Boston, Joan worked in pediatrics as a Nurse’s Aide at Massachusetts Eye and Ear for 35 years.

Joan truly loved the Lord and was steadfast in her faith. She attended Charles Street AME church in Massachusetts for over 20 years. She was involved in many activities in the AME church including participating in the church Caribbean Cultural Club and singing in the church choir.  Joan also loved cooking for others. When you entered her home, she would greet you with a warm meal, cake, or some type of warm homemade bread.

Joan was a beacon of light in her community who helped many people. Joan opened her home to anyone that needed food, shelter, or was struggling with life. She was always ready to listen and help others. As a person who loved the Lord, she was able to be a blessing to others throughout the years.

After she retired from Massachusetts Eye and Ear, she moved away from the harsh weather of Massachusetts to South Carolina. Joan was a loving mother and a pillar of strength to her friends and family. She will be forever remembered in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents and her husband Joan was also preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Yvette Legere; son-in-law, David Grier; and siblings, Henry Bancroft, Frank Hoyte, Keith Hoyte, and Peggy Stout.

Joan is lovingly survived by her children, Claudette Grier and Dr. Paulette (Rev. Ernest)  Legere-Branch; six cherished grandchildren: Hezekiah Branch, Marcus Branch, Ayanna Grier, David Grier, Joanna Grier, Tiara Legere; and great grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered by her siblings, Anthony Bancroft, Edward Bancroft, Irene Burkett, John Bancroft, Maureen (Victor) Morales, Olvin Bancroft, Wayne Bancroft;  as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss her.
