Ms. JoAnn Dow-Goods, the daughter of Betty Jean Ferguson and the late James Boulware was born on August 19, 1964, in Baltimore, Maryland. She transitioned from this earthly life peacefully at her residence on Thursday, February 8, 2024.
JoAnn accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and began her Christian Journey at Bethany Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland.
In June 1982, JoAnn graduated from Patterson High School in Baltimore, Maryland. She had a passion for unique hairstyles and designer clothes. JoAnn pursued a career in Cosmetology and graduated from Baltimore School of Hair Design. She was named the Dow Family’s Fashionista and would always appear at the family functions fashionably late, and of course . . . drawing everyone’s attention! She put the entire family on notice every year to join in on her Birthday Celebrations.
In October 2005, JoAnn married Malachi Goods, “the love of her life”.
JoAnn left the city life and moved to Columbia, South Carolina in 2008, where she continued her full and fruitful life. She passed the Certified Nursing Exam and was immediately hired as an Eye Technician at Eye Mart Express. She was also employed at Amazon as an Assembly Line Worker, and later established her own cleaning business, “Goods Cleaning Services.”
JoAnn was an ambitious person, full of personality, and was always ready to take on a challenge. She had a passion for life and shared her life with others, friends and relatives along her journey. JoAnn possessed a unique energy level. She was a natural performer and enjoyed working with the youth in performing praise dances and skits. Her skits were extremely popular because she added so much reality to her roles. In June 2013, JoAnn received 1st Place Talent Show Award at the Dow Family Reunion; for her performance and demonstration of how she had overcome her life’s challenges, and how she came out of the darkness and into the light of a new beginning.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Samuel Dow, Sr., and Christina Dow Oden; her baby brother, Marc Sheppard; and special uncle, LeRoy Goins.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving mother, Betty Jean Ferguson; one brother, Benny King; two nephews, William Robinson, and Antwan King; three aunts, Dorothy Jackson, Yvonne Dow, and Mary Lamb; a special aunt and God-Mother, Rosa Dow-Goins; her special friend, Jessie Legette; two loving and devoted cousins, Rodney (Veronica) Dow, and Tyrone (Latrell) Dow; lifelong friends, Gerald Cook, Lisa Carroll, and Amanda Brayboy; and a host of cousins, and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.
