Jessie F. Brown

Ms. Jessie Foster Brown, 83 was the daughter of the late Elijah Jones, Sr. and Commie Tines Jones, was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi on November 28, 1938. She departed this life suddenly at her home in Columbia, SC on May 5, 2022. 

Jessie received her formal education in the Clarksdale Private School system, and graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Clarksdale, Mississippi, in 1960. In 1961, Jessie relocated to New York where she met the love of her life, Melvin Brown Sr. Jessie was united in matrimony to the late Melvin Brown, Sr. on January 27, 1973, in Great Neck, New York. Jessie and Melvin, later in 1975 relocated to Columbia, SC to join their blended family as one. The union blessed them to have seven children: three daughters and four sons. 

On, October 3, 1982, Jessie was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and received the Holy Ghost, according to Acts 2:38 and Acts 2:4 at the Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ for over 40 years. Jessie was a dedicated faithful member serving on baptism, hospitality, volunteer -flower bearers and usher committees until her passing. 

Jessie love for children lead her in January of 1984 to become a Richland School District One substitute teacher for Hyatt Park Elementary School. By Sept of 1984 Jessie was hired as a full-time Instructional Assistant for 4k and Kindergarten. Jessie love for teaching spand over 19 years until her retirement in 2003. She had a special love for children and that love lead her to expand her years of service to Fantasy Island Child Care Center for over 30 years. Jessie lived by “Be steadfast and immovable always abounding in good work” Mosiah 5:15, “That when you do something, give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain” 1 Corinthians 15:58 

Jessie leaves to cherish her fond and precious memories: six children, Mr. Donald (Harriett) Jones, Mr. Kevin (Towanda) Brown, Mr. Melvin Brown Jr., Mr. Rafeal Brown, Ms. Vivian Livingston, Ms. Zenovia Brown all of Columbia, South Carolina; Two sisters, Ms. Rosie Lee Watson of Omaha, Nebraska, and Ms. Mary Lee Beckham, Memphis Tenn.;, 25 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, two best friends, Sis Vivian Boles, and Sis Barbara Wannamaker and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a Church family to carry on her memory.
