Jerome D. Dacus was born on December 8, 1956, in Anderson, South Carolina, the son of the late Lorenzo and Julia Mae Pratt Dacus . He peacefully departed this life on Monday, January 19, 2026, at his residence in Columbia, South Carolina.
Jerome was educated in the public schools of Anderson County, where he graduated from Honea Path High School in Belton, South Carolina. Jerome honorably served his country in the United States Army from which he received an Honorable Discharge. He worked as a cook at Agape at Kathwood Assistant Living, and later as a butcher in the meat department at Walmart. He loved cooking, especially butter beans and ham hock, and he enjoyed grilling, and was known for his famous turkey wings.
He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan and a lover of music, with Prince and Purple Rain being his favorite. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. Though he is no longer with us, he will lovingly be remembered by all those who loved and knew him.
Jerome was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved son, Jamal Washington; and his brother, Tommy Dacus.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Rosa Dacus; his step daughters, Shanon Edmonds and Ashley Edmonds; brothers, Dannie Dacus, Terry Dacus, Ronnie Dacus and Stanley (Tracey) Dacus; sister, Diane (Cecil) O’Neill; step grandchildren, Antonio (Kiemah) Clark, Darryl Davis Jr, Daria Davis, Maurice Lide, Ashton Lide, Lauren Lide and Ava Martin; step great-grandchildren, Kerry Clark III, Cameron Clark, Darryl Davis III and Driss Davis; brother-in-law, Jeffrey (Sandra) Bates; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Myers and Brenda Bates; a host of nephews, nieces and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss him.
