Javan Bolar-Robinson, Jr. was born on November 5, 1924 in Columbia, SC. He was the son of the late Javan Robison and Lettie Bolar-Robinson. He departed this life on earth and entered into eternal rest heaven on June 19, 2021.
He attended public school in Richland County. Javan started working when he was in the 6th grade. He made $.50 a week. Javan left school in the 10th grade to work full time in construction.
Javan was affectionately known by family and friends as Mr. Bolar, Junior, Big Junior, Uncle Junior and to so many, granddaddy., due to love copied from his grandchildren. He had a reputation for passing out nicknames for the last 75 years, nicknames that we all grew to accept and love. Javon was very loving, caring and a very humorous man.
He drove a pulpwood truck, cleared land using a heavy machinery & equipment. He went on in life, proud of his work, one known as helping to build Alcorn Middle School here in Columbia. He retired later in life as dump truck driver with Tarmac Lonestar Inc. He then enjoyed driving an ice cream truck for a few years. For many years he was a phenomenal guitar player. He loved gospel, country, blues and bluegrass music. He loved fishing, food and family. Javan made a very tasty catfish with cornbread. He would also go hunting as a hobby.
Mr. Bolar was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise McDaniel-Bolar; a daughter, Judy Mae Ashford and his sister, Susan Mae Robinson-Glover.
He is survived by five granddaughters; twelve great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews whom will miss him dearly.
