Jannie Scott Obituary

Sister Jannie Mae Oree Scott was born on January 30, 1944 in Richland County, South Carolina. She was the eldest child of Brother William Oree Sr. and Sister Hattie Mae Taylor Oree. She passed away on Saturday afternoon on March 17, 2018.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, siblings, and other family members, friends and church members, including members of her community, Atlas Road Community, where she was an active member.

She was known to some as “Scotty” and her son started calling her “Lady Scott.” She was a loving person. She was known for her cooking. Her sisters recall that she was well known for her fried chicken, silver dollar biscuits and strawberry cake. She would do anything for anyone because she had a kind heart. Church, cooking, and giving was her life. She loved her children, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. During her career, she was a caterer, cook, babysitter, house technician, and a Certified Nursing Assistant. She married Samuel Jacob Scott on January 21, 1963 after graduating Hopkins High School in 1962.

She was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and received the Gift of the Holy Ghost. She was an active member of the Columbia Branch Church in the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostles’ Doctrine, Inc.

She served as a member of the church’s Sisterhood, Women Helpers, and as a cook.

Her father and mother, William and Hattie Oree preceded her to the grave.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband: Samuel J. Scott; her son: Samuel D. Scott; daughters: Samantha Tucker, Tabatha Sutton, and Keysha (Ernest) Joyner, all of Columbia, SC; two special children: Melissa Scott Green of Columbia, SC and Alphonso Scott of North Carolina; brothers and sisters: William (Carolyn) Oree of Lancaster, SC, Sister Yvonne (Samuel) Henry of Columbia, SC, and Sister Cathern Davis of Columbia, SC; several aunts and uncles: Mr. Lewis (Willie Mae) Taylor of Hopkins, Slater Oree of Columbia, SC, Joe Lewis Oree of New York, Ida Thompson of Columbia, SC, Millie Hamilton of Columbia, SC, and Annie Mae (Rufus) Richardson of Gaston, SC.; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and other relatives, friends, members of her community, and a large church family.
