Janie Bell Scott Obituary

Janie Bell Scott was born on January 25, 1940,  the beloved daughter of the late John Henry and Mary Reeves.  She departed this life to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, in Columbia, South Carolina.

Janie was educated in the public schools of Richland County and was a proud graduate of Booker T Washington High School.  After graduating, she spent the remainder of her life growing roots in her native hometown of Columbia South Carolina.

Janie was self-employed as a seamstress, where she specialized in home décor.  Janie Bell was very stylish and loved fashion.  She was later employed as a seamstress with Ed Robinson Cleaners for many years.

Janie met the love her life, James P. Scott Sr., and they were united in holy matrimony for more than sixty years.  It was then that she began her second and most important career as a homemaker to her husband and family.  After raising her children, she took on her final career as a certified home care provider for the state of South Carolina, taking care of the mentally challenged and disabled for more than twenty-five years until her health declined.

She also loved to sing praises to the Lord.  She was an encourager, friend, and mother to many.  She was steadfast with her faith in God and loved sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with anyone, even strangers.

Janie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Reverend James P. Scott, Sr., with whom she raised eight children and dedicated her life to serving God, supporting her husband, and raising her children.  Together they built a lifetime of memories that will be shared and passed on through generations.

Janie Bell will be remembered by all for her words of wisdom, her warm and kind spirit, her contagious smile, and most of all the pillar of strength that she was to her family.

She is survived by her loving  children, Aurelia Howell, Janie Rogers, Robbie Jones, Ivy (Nehru) Powell, James (Mamcha) Scott, Jr.,  Arnold (Tomeca) Scott, Russell Scott and Angel (Timothy) Peters; 29 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; her caring brother, Anthony Reeves; and her loving sisters, Sylvia Johnson, Ruthie Mae Mills;  and a host of nephews,  nieces, and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom rejoice that she is now with the Lord.
