Jamie Neil Johnson affectionately called “Jay Bird” entered this world on July 24, 1979, the third child born to Gloria Cook Johnson and the late Willie B. Johnson in Columbia, South Carolina. Jamie was a faithful grandson to the late Mose and Katherine Williams and Willie B. and Benzena Johnson Sr. He departed this life Tuesday, January 24, 2023, after a brief illness.
Jamie was educated in Richland County public schools and was a 1997 graduate of Eau Claire High School. He furthered his education, receiving an Associate degree in Criminal Justice and later pursued and achieved a BS degree in 2019 from Columbia College. Immediately upon graduating from high school, he relocated to Jacksonville, Florida.
The foundation for his Christian experience was laid at Full Gospel Word Church. It was in Jacksonville, Florida that two of his most life altering events occurred: First, he received the Holy Ghost on January 20, 1999; secondly, he met and married the love of his life, Latanya Shipman. He answered the call on his life and entered the ministry; eventually he became an ordained elder and chief elder of Royal Priesthood Ministry Mecca under the leadership of Bishop Malcom and Dr. J. Rene Carter Sr.; being used mightily of the Lord in gifts of healings; signs and wonders and was a prolific teacher of the Word of God.
He served as the Accounts Service Manager for US Homes Rentals LLC. for 8 years. Jamie was a diehard San Francisco 49ers fan and equally adored the Bulls, Hurricanes and Tarheels. He was a devoted husband and a loving father who absolutely adored his entire family.
Those left to cherish fond memories are his loving and devoted wife of 23 years, Latanya S. Johnson, and his twins, Jaden “Lil’ Jamie” and Jada “Daddy’s Girl”, all of the home; his wonderful mother, Gloria Johnson of Columbia, SC; devoted and loving siblings, Yolanda Johnson of Columbia, SC; and Torry (Barina) Johnson of Charlotte, NC; a godson, Justin Shipman of Jacksonville, Fl; his closest friends and caregivers, Walter Vance, Sr. and Arthur Jones; a host of loving and caring in-laws, uncles, aunts, cousins, treasured friends and co-workers; all of whom will dearly miss him.
