James W. Veal Obituary

Mr. James Wilbur Veal, affectionately known as “Big Wilb”, was born on December 3, 1947 in Georgia. He was the second child of six children born to the late James Veal and Ada Lewis Veal. He departed this life on June 3, 2021 at Prisma Health Heart Hospital.

 

James was educated in the Richland County Public School System, where he completed his studies at C.A. Johnson High school, where he also played football.  After high school he enlisted into the Unlisted States Army.  He was huge Dallas Cowboys fan.

 

James was employed at Taylor’s Brothers Construction Company, Inc. Of Columbia, SC as a driver and trainer.  He served as a deacon as Cornerstone Baptist Church.

 

James was preceded in death by three brothers, Ruben Monroe, Douglas and Glean Veal and a sister Adele Veal.

 

Left to cherish precious memories are his mother, Ada Lewis of Columbia, SC; three sons, James (Erica) Veal of Charlotte, NC, Keith D. Veal of Gastonia, NC and Jamal Horne of Columbia, SC; four daughters, Annette (Warren) Halter of West Columbia, SC, Yolanda Veal, Shanna Whitener and Fatima Horne all of Columbia, SC; sister, Deloria Veal of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins all whom will miss him dearly.
