James Walter Glenn, Sr. was born November 11, 1947, in Columbia, South Carolina, the son of the late Tommy Glenn and Elizabeth Thompson Glenn. He departed this world peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the age of seventy-eight (78).
James's life was a tapestry of love, strength, and unwavering commitment to family, friends, and community. He was a proud son of Columbia, where he received his education through the public schools of Richland County, laying the foundation for a life characterized by hard work and dedication. His career as an OTR technician spanned nearly four decades, beginning at Miller Tire for seventeen (17) years, continuing at Miller Brothers for 15 years, and culminating at Snyder Tire for 7 years, where he was admired by his colleagues for his exceptional work ethic and the honest, straightforward manner that endeared him to all who knew him.
To know James was to witness a man who never met a stranger. His heart was vast and welcoming, always ready to lend a hand or share a story. He was known for being a straight shooter who spoke his mind with clarity and conviction. Yet, beneath that forthright exterior lay a soul of profound kindness and empathy, attributes that those who knew him cherished deeply.
James was an avid pool player, a passion that brought him joy and camaraderie. He was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, engaging in spirited discussions about their seasons and the silver screen, especially western cowboy movies, was matched only by his enjoyment of new cinematic adventures. James's greatest joy was found in the time spent with his family, sharing laughter, love, and the simple pleasures of life.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Glenn and Alex Glenn, whose spirits undoubtedly welcomed him into eternal rest.
His legacy lives on through his cherished children, James Glenn, Jr. and Donna A. Glenn-Davis; and the joy of his thirteen (13) grandchildren; seven (7) great-grandchildren, who will carry forward the stories and values he instilled in them. He also leaves his brothers, Joe (Trudy) Glenn of North Carolina, Ronnie (Queenie) Glenn, Willie Glenn, Tommie Glenn, Jr., and Johnathan (Veronica) Glenn, all of Columbia, SC; sisters, Lucille Wages, and Ruth Anne (Bobby) Glover, both of Columbia, SC; brothers-in-law, Willie (Debbie) Javis, Thomas Javis and Otis Trapp, Sr.; sisters-in-law, Mary Glenn, Irene Tindwell, and Loretta Thomas, all of Columbia, SC; former wife, Doris Glenn; a host of nephews, nieces and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss him.
