James Raymond Harts was born October 17, 1951, in Jenkinsville (Fairfield County), South Carolina, the beloved son of the late Robert and Willie Mae Ginyard Harts. He was surrounded by family when he received his call to eternal rest on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the MUSC Health Columbia Medical Center, downtown, in Columbia, South Carolina.
James, affectionately known as "Raymond" was educated in the public schools of Fairfield County and graduated from McCrorey Liston High School. He studied brick masonry in school and later learned carpentry. After high school, he began his career, owning his own company, Harts Masonry and Carpentry. He had his own contracts and worked as a subcontractor for Summerfield and Associates, and he was also employed by Loveless Commercial Contractor Inc. for three years. His expertise was extensive, with over 40 years of experience. He also worked at the Olympic Mills and served as a transportation driver for the State of South Carolina. Raymond was an industrious worker throughout his life and rarely took any time off. He was an excellent provider for his family, and we will miss him and the love he showed for us dearly.
Raymond met and married the love of his life, Sheryl Felicia Anderson, with whom he shared 42 years of love, devotion, and the birth of one son, Raymond Sion Harts.
Over the years, Raymond attended Mount Moriah Baptist Church of Jenkinsville, SC. Even during his declining health, his faith remained unwavering, even when faced with uncertainty.
He loved baseball, football, and basketball. He also enjoyed sightseeing and had a passion for music. In his spare time, he liked reading and doing crossword puzzles. Raymond loved watching movies and enjoyed taking long drives, going out of town -preferably, as long as he did not have to fly on a plane or take a cruise!
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by sisters, Toni Elaine Harts, Gwendolyn H. Etheredge, Shirley H. Williams, and Barbra H. Brown; and two brothers, Herman Harts and Robert S. Harts.
Those who will forever cherish fond and precious memories of Raymond are his loving, devoted and beautiful wife, Sheryl Felicia Harts; caring son, Raymond Sion (Kendra) Harts, of Columbia, SC; two granddaughters, Princess Harts, of Columbia, SC, and Saharri Sansbury, of Elgin, SC; three grandsons, Raymond (Darrian) Harts Jr. of Lexington, SC, Justin Harts of Columbia SC, and Omari James Harts, of Columbia, SC; two great granddaughters, Peyton Rae Harts and Drayden Nicole Harts, both of Lexington, SC; two sisters, Evelyn (Robert) Pinkney, of Winnsboro, SC, and Dianne (Jesse) McClurkin, of Columbus, GA; three brothers, Wayne (Vivian) Harts, of Ridgway, SC, Larry Harts, of Columbia, SC, and Frederick (Valerie) Harts of Pelion, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
