James Reed Hill, affectionately called "Reed " by family and friends, was born on August 13, 1954, in Columbia, South Carolina, the beloved son of the late John G. and Eunice Warren Hill. He departed his earthly life on Monday, June 22, 2026, in Ridgeway, South Carolina.
James was educated in the public schools of Richland School District One where he graduated from Columbia High School. He was employed for many years with Trane Technologies from which he retired in 2023, after many years of dedicated service.
Reed was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, beloved brother, uncle, cousin, and friend who has touched the lives of others with his personality and his authenticity.
Although he is no longer physically with us, he has left a Legacy of Love to all those who loved and knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his devoted and beloved wife, Gwendolyn S. Hill; brothers, William, Robert, and Walter Hill; and sisters-in-law, Pauline Alston and Janet Douglas Hill.
Those who will forever cherish his loving memories are his only loving and devoted child, Kimberly (Micheal) Roundtree; three (3) adoring grandchildren, Cetric Tyrone Hubbard Jr., MiKenzie Kaoir Roundtree, and Mason Christopher Morris. He also leaves behind three (3) caring brothers, Vaughn "Ronnie" (Martha) Hill, Anthony "Tony" Hill, and John Gregory Hill III; caring mother-in-law, Rosa Gibson Bigby; devoted brothers-in-law, Edwin (Sandra) Gibson, and Roosevelt Montgomery; three (3) caring sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn Hightower, Felita Wilborn, and Virginia Spigner; a host of nephews, nieces, and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss him.
