James (“Jimmy”) Larry Davoll, Sr. entered this world on September 16, 1933, in Columbia, South Carolina. He was the 13th child born to Susie (Lodge) and Augustus Davoll. He answered God’s call to return to Him on September 6, 2021. He was the last of the tribe and enjoyed being the patriarch of the Davoll family.
Jimmy attended C. A. Johnson High School. Although he didn’t further his formal education, he had a PhD in kindness, generosity, and a love of Christ. He read his bible every single day and was thrilled to share the good news of the Lord with everyone he met.
As a teenager, Jimmy was baptized at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. He later joined and served as a deacon at Ridgewood Baptist Church for decades. In his later years, he joined the NorthStar Christian Center congregation in NE Columbia. He worshiped there lovingly until his earthly departure.
In 1954, he married the love of his life, Catherine Spann. Their union was blessed with three beautiful children, first a girl followed by two boys.
He was also an enthusiastic sportsman. He enjoyed watching any kind of sport but especially football, basketball, baseball, and wrestling. He always made time to go fishing. He could be found regularly holding court at Hardees and the Waffle House, shooting the breeze with the boys, and charming the ladies.
Cooking was his love language. He was a trained chef, halal butcher and could skillfully sculpt ice. He retired after 42 years of dedicated service in the Food Industry at Clemson University. Cooking for family and friends brought him as much joy as those eating his delicious meals. It was also a way for him to build friendships among so many young and senior people alike.
Jimmy loved and was loved by people from all walks of life. He knew no stranger. But he saved his deepest love for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, wife, Dr. Catherine Spann Davoll.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Terrie Davoll Hudson (Elliott) of Dallas, Texas; Reverend J. Larry Davoll, Jr. and Brady Stephon Davoll (Monica), both of Columbia, South Carolina; grandsons Toddrick Foulks and Justin Davoll, Columbia, SC; granddaughters: Brittany Hudson, Dallas, Texas; Zahrya Davoll of Columbia, SC; great-grandchildren Kismet Hudson, Dallas, TX; Pryia Benion-Foulks of Boston, MA; Jabria Davoll and Skylar Davoll of Columbia, SC and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
