James McCray, Jr. (June Bug), was born September 3, 1960, in Columbia, South Carolina, the beloved son of the late James McCray Sr. and Edna Mae Glover McCray. He departed this life on Monday, January 5, 2026, at PRISMA Health Richland Heart Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones.
James attended Richland County Public Schools and was employed by the State of South Carolina as a Police Fleet Mechanic and later employed by Richtex Brick Company as a Brick Kiln Loader.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Edna McCray Cornellius; and his brother, Martin Luther McCray.
Those who are cherishing fond and precious memories of James are his loving wife, Myra of the home; loving daughter, Someeka McCray; stepson, Matt of the home; granddaughter, Lakeeva Ross; grandsons, James Ross and Jeremiah Walker; great granddaughters, Jamonii Darien and Bray’lynn Ross; loving sister, Laura (James) Boykin; caring brother, Charles McCray; nieces, Nichola (Dermaine) McCray Morris, LaQuella Williams and Jeanette Cornelius Richards; nephews, Willie Corneilus, Jr. and Sintrell McCray; and a host of great nieces and nephews and family members. He also leaves behind cherished memories to his blended family that includes two special granddaughters, Destiny and India Gibson; and a host of stepsons, stepdaughters, step grands and step great grands; as well as his special friends, Avon Starling, Floyd Hutchinson, Jimmy Outin and James Richards, along with a host of other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss him.
