James “Mike” Harmon of the Dutch Fork Community in Columbia, SC entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 8, 2019. He was born on September 30, 1957 in Richland County, South Carolina to Mrs. Nancy Harmon (nee Quattlebaum) and the late Fertis Harmon, Sr.
Mike was a graduate of Columbia High School, class of 1976 and enlisted into the United States Army shortly after his graduation. He served for nine years in the Army obtaining the rank of Sergeant throughout his assignments to Fort Dix, Fort Stewart, Ansbach Army Base and Fort Jackson.
He dedicated his life to working with troubled youth as he served in the juvenile corrections field for over 18 years. He also worked directly with the youth and special needs patients at residential treatment facilities between South Carolina and Virginia for 15 years.
Mike was a man of many hobbies, including listening to soul, R&B, and funk music, watching films and tv, as well as cooking. However, he was most comfortable and at his happiest simply enjoying a drink with the company of his family and friends.
Surviving Mike are his mother, Nancy; two brothers, Fertis, Jr. and Steve; sister, Karen; four children, Rhonda, James, Maurice, and Jermaine; his current wife, Cassandra; his loving wife of 16 years, Jannifer “Yvette” and his nine grandchildren, Ricardo, Mercedes, Jayden, Juan, Angel, Jacob, James “Timmy”, Marsaeus “Mars”, and Mya.
