James L. Cornish

Mr. James L. Cornish was born July 5, 1959 to the late Eartha Cornish and Richard Benefield.  He departed this life on May 11, 2020.  Born and raised in Hopkins, SC, he attended the public schools of Richland County.

At an early age, James became a member of Zion Benevolent Baptist Church and later joined Unity Missionary Baptist Church.

James was an avid sports fan.  His favorite college team was the Clemson Tigers and the NFL Dallas Cowboys.

James was formerly employed at South Carolina Electric and Gas, Union Camp, East Coast Steel, SMI, Westinghouse and Walmart until his health failed him.

James was preceded in death by his brother, John Cornish, Sr. and sister, Josephine Cornish Nixon.

James leaves to cherish his precious memories to his wife, Johnetta McMillan Cornish; sister, Sarah (Clarence) Jones of Hopkins, SC; brother, Joseph (Leola) Cornish of Columbia, SC; a special niece, Joann (Lyndon) Thompson; two special nephews, John (Lisa) Cornish, Jr of North Carolina and Larry Cornish of Columbia, SC; three brothers-in-law, John (Mary) Scott, Jr. of Columbia, SC, Sylvester Scott of Eastover, SC, Leonard Scott of Columbia, SC and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends who loved him and will miss him dearly.
