Jacqueline Vernae Humphrey McCoy, affectionately known as “Jackie,” departed this life on April 29, 2026, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Born on July 2, 1963, in Paso Robles, California, Jackie was the daughter of the late Ethel Mae (Langford) Humphrey and Erbie Humphrey.
Jackie lived boldly, loved deeply, and brought laughter wherever she went. A true free spirit with a heart full of faith, she was known for her quick wit, warm personality, and ability to make people feel seen and welcomed. She loved music, especially Prince, and her favorite color, purple, reflected the vibrant spirit she carried throughout her life.
Hardworking and independent, Jackie experienced life far beyond one place. From California to Germany, Alabama, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, she collected memories, stories, friendships, and experiences that shaped the woman so many people loved. Jackie graduated early at the age of 16 while living in Fort Gordon, Georgia, and later proudly served in the United States Air Force.
Jackie loved God and believed deeply in prayer, encouragement, and speaking positively over life. Among her personal writings were reminders to “turn into a prayer warrior” and to “keep speaking the positive,” words that beautifully reflect the faith and hope she carried in her heart.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents,Ethel and Erbie Humphrey, and her father-in-law, Robert McClinton.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Rodney L. McClinton; her daughters, Crystal Jacqueline Sewell and Charlisa Jasmine McCoy; her beloved grandchildren Ayonna Victoria Sewell, Zachary Warren Sewell, Kylee Alexandria Sewell, Caleb Jacob Wolfe, Dallas Omega Wolfe; her brother, James Patrick Humphrey; her mother-in-law, Lillie McClinton; sister-in-law Angela Wilson; brothers-in-law Cedric McClinton (Tasha) and Derrick Weldon; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
Though Jackie’s earthly journey has ended, her laughter, love, faith, and unforgettable spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
