Irene Marion Holmes Campbell, affectionately known as ‘Tump” was born on January 18, 1936 in Remington, Virginia. She was the fourth of twelve children born to the late Robert and Frances Holmes. She departed this life on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Lexington Medical Center.
Irene Marion Holmes Campbell was educated in the Culpepper County School System. She worked at Embreeville State Hospital in Chester County, Pennsylvania for years. She also worked at Moncrief Army Hospital at Fort Jackson and then transferred to Dorn Veteran Medical Center where she retired after working for 30 years in the nursing field.
Irene Marion Holmes Campbell was sweet, caring, giving, kind, and was sometimes hard headed and stubborn. She had a love for her Cadillac, knitting ad traveling. She also enjoyed reading the Bible, sight-seeing, watching game shows and old westerns, playing solitaire, solving word puzzles, riding with her grandson to eat and last but not least making others smile and having a good laugh. She truly had a heart of gold. She faithfully attended church with her family until her health failed. Her favorite scripture was Mark 11:22-24.
Irene Marion Holmes Campbell was preceded in death by, her parents; her daughter, Debbie Campbell; her sister, Mary Holmes; brothers, Robert B. Holmes Jr., Andrew Holmes Sr., Randall Holmes Sr. and Charles Holmes Sr.
Irene Marion Holmes Campbell leaves to cherish her precious memories, her daughters, Marcia (Terry) Gibbs, Marie (Warren) Feaster, Dorothy Campbell, Frances Campbell and Eileen Samon; son, Walter (Bridget) Campbell; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends all of whom will miss her dearly.
