Ida Beatrice James was born August 30, 1932, in Columbia, South Carolina, the beloved daughter of the late Wesley and Lucille Smith. She was called home to glory on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, in Columbia, South Carolina.
Beatrice was educated in the public schools of Richland District One. In 1968, she began a career with Pepsi Cola Columbia Plant where she worked as a Filler Operator. She retired in 1991, after thirty-four (34) years of dedicated service.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Ivra “Boo” James with whom she shared many wonderful and loving years before he went home to be with the Lord.
Mrs. James was a longtime member of Zion Chapel Baptist Church #1 where she enjoyed singing on the Zion Chapel Baptist Church #1 Usher Board, traveling, reading, listening to music, playing bingo, cooking, and interacting with her family and friends.
Though she is no longer physically with us, Beatrice was a loving sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed by all those who loved and knew her.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Beatrice was also preceded in death by her brother, John Wesley Smith; and sisters, Ella Mae Hammond, Irene English, Carrie Lee Thompson, and Nezzie Willie Pearl Smith Hill.
Those who are cherishing fond and precious memories of Beatrice are her loving sister, LoLa B. Mack; caregivers, Loretta Mack, Thomas T. Kelsie, and Shanyah J. Curry; along with a host of nephews, nieces and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss her, but rejoice that she is now resting with the Lord.
