Henrietta M. Wilson Obituary

Henrietta Morris Wilson of Columbia, South Carolina, was born on June 20, 1934, in Eastover, South Carolina, the beloved daughter of the late John and Virginia Goodwin Morris. She transitioned peacefully on Friday, January 30, 2026, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law.

At an early age, Henrietta joined St. Phillip A.M.E. Church in Eastover, where she served faithfully.  She was a graduate of Webber High School and was later united in marriage to the late Green Wilson, Sr. Their union was blessed with two sons and two daughters.

Henrietta traveled extensively with her husband during his military career. Upon returning home from military service, she became a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Gadsden, SC where she was very active, including serving as assistant clerk and later as church clerk, Youth Choir Advisor, Sunday School teacher, and member of the musical choir. She was a mentor to many, especially youth and young adults.

Later, Henrietta joined Zion Chapel Baptist Church – Reeder Point, where she was a loyal and dedicated member until her health began to decline. While active, she served in many capacities, including Trustee, member of the musical choir, member of the Usher Board, and the Willing Workers ministry.

Henrietta was a very loving, caring, and kind person who had unwavering faith. When faced with life’s challenges, she was noted for telling others to “say a prayer and keep moving,” a motto that she lived by.

Henrietta had several jobs, mostly in the school food service industry.  She served as a cook at various schools in Richland County School District #1.  She was an excellent cook and baker and used her skills not only in her career but in other ways throughout her life.  She was known for her beautiful and delicious wedding, birthday, and holiday cakes. She took pride in her creations and shared her love for cooking and baking with family, friends, and neighbors.

Henrietta loved people, and she loved life.  Some of her other favorite pastimes were gardening, sewing, and spending time with family and friends.  She especially adored her grandchildren and cherished her time with them.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Trina Marie Wilson Jackson, and a son, Michael Gene Wilson. She was also preceded in death by brothers, John Morris, Jr., Bishop Roland Morris, Richard Morris, Moses Morris, Sr., and Franklin Morris; and sisters, Susie Coles, Emma Stevenson, and Jannie Shealey.

She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories her son, Green (Theressa) Wilson, Jr. of Columbia, SC; daughter, Beverly W. (Martin) Samuels of Blythewood, SC; daughter-in-law, Gaye K. Wilson of Blythewood, SC; son-in-law, Reverend Marvin (Valorie) Jackson, Sr. of West Columbia, SC; brothers, Dr. Robert E.
