Ms. Hazel B. Newkirt began her life on March 31, 1948, in Calhoun Falls, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Johnny Belcher and the late Minnie Lee (Postell) Belcher. She departed this life at the age of 76 on February 14, 2025, after a short illness.
Hazel was a lively, friendly, and feisty person that was quick to smile until you make her mad, and took pride in her appearance. She was a beautiful woman that loved Jehovah. She liked to read her Bible and quote scriptures. She liked going out in field service with her physical and spiritual family. She graduated from Abbeville High School in 1966. She moved to Philadelphia, PA in 1967 and worked at the PSFS Bank for several years. In the late 1980’s, she moved to Calhoun Falls and eventually moved to Columbia. While in Columbia, she worked at Hamrick’s, Dillards, worked as a substitute teacher, and eventually retiring after working at the Sam’s Club. She loved horses (although afraid of them), loved to dance, go shopping, take walks, and spotting good-looking vehicles. Hazel loved her family!
Hazel leaves three sisters to share her memories: Sallie J. Belcher, Annie Beatrice Lykes, and Jackie Belcher (James) Cook. Two brothers: William (Jaretta) Belcher and Kem (Angie) Belcher. She also leaves her only living Aunt to cherish her memories along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who grieve her passing.
We will miss you Hazel!
