Mr. Harold James Doctor Sr., affectionately known as “Doc”, was born on April 19, 1947 to Deacon Jake and Mae Belle Hickman Doctor in Bucksport, South Carolina. He departed this earthly life on Monday, May 18, 2020 at his home surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
Harold was educated in the public schools of Horry County, South Carolina. After graduating from Whittemore High School in 1963, he attended Area Trade School in Denmark, SC and graduated with a specialty certification in Heating and Air Conditioning. He then served in the United States Army with a tour in Vietnam and, subsequently, served in the United States Army Reserve. Following his military service, Harold earned an Associate Degree in Business Management from Midlands Technical College. He was employed at Westinghouse Nuclear Plant in Columbia, SC for 37 years, retiring as maintenance operations supervisor.
Harold was united in holy matrimony to Beolia Patterson in September 1966. To this union two children were born, Harold Jr. and Anissa.
At an early age, Harold came to know God and regularly attended church with his parents. After relocating to Columbia, he joined Union Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Trustee Board and regularly served on the Men’s Day Committee. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Capital City Lodge #47, where he was installed as Worship Master in December 1980 and honored as Mason of the Year in 1987. Harold enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Jordan R. Smith. He is survived by: his wife, Beolia P. Doctor; son, Harold Jr. (LoTria) Doctor of Blythewood, SC; daughter, Anissa Doctor of Columbia, SC; Grandchildren, Taylor Doctor of Blythewood, SC and Aiden Doctor of Columbia, SC; sister, Daisy (Lemeul) Stephens of Elgin, SC; nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends; and a friend, Dorothy Johnson.
