On Saturday, July 3, 2021, the Lord sent one of His angels to earth to receive, Ms. Gwendolyn LaVerne Dixon, up to her heavenly home.
Gwendolyn LaVerne Dixon, affectionately known as “Nana” to all was born on October 5, 1956 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Mr. Johnny M. Dixon & Mrs. Eugenia Scott Dixon.
She was educated at C.A. Johnson High School and completed courses at Benedict College and Midlands Technical College. She worked in healthcare services for many years until her health declined. “Nana” was baptized at Zion Baptist Church and later became a member of the family church Greenhill Baptist Church, Elgin, SC.
“Nana” always had a smile on her face, never forgot a birthday or anniversary, never met a stranger and loved all her family above all others. She will be missed dearly.
She was proceeded in death by her father Mr. Johnny M. Dixon, her brothers Mr. Ronnie Dixon and Mr. Charles Dixon, her brother-in-law, Reverend Willie C. Simons and her beloved grandmother Mrs. Gertrude Susie DeWalt “Momma Susie”.
Ms. Gwendolyn Dixon leaves to cherish her fond and loving memory her daughters, Jeanna “Tricey” (Kelvin) McCray, of Charlotte, NC, Tara Jamison and Suzette Jamison, both of Columbia, SC; (13) grandchildren, Kelsie Bryant, Karson McLeod, Kenedi McLeod, Kara, Kallie & Kendall Langford, JaKorey Barber, Bryana Jamison, Jayden Gownes, James Gownes, Jaymeson “Stanka” Gownes, Jamey Gownes and Brielle Browning. Her mother Mrs. Eugenia Scott Dixon. Her siblings Mr. Cecil R. Dixon, Washington, DC, Mr. John M. Dixon, Jr, Mrs. Patricia Simons, Mrs. Valerie (Marcell) Barnes, Mrs. Audrey (Bernard) DeLoach, and Ms. Phyllis Dixon all of Columbia, SC. A host of very special Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins all of whom she affectionately gave special nicknames that they will all cherish and remember forever.
