Saint Gwendolyn Marie Flournoy was born February 28, 1965, in Brooklyn, New York, the beloved daughter of the late Elder Joseph Flournoy, Sr. and Martha Lousie Johnson. She peacefully transitioned from labor to reward on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
Gwen as she was affectionately called by family and friends, graduated from Eau Claire High School in the class of 1983. She continued her education and attended Midlands Technical Collage where she received her associate degree in accounting. She also received certification in medical billing and coding from the University of Phoenix. She was a long-time employee of Blue Cross Blue Shield. She also worked as office manager of Rooms To Go for over five years; as well as ARISE where she enjoyed working from home.
Saint Gwendolyn was a faithful and dedicated member of the United House of Prayer for all People since birth. During her tenure she served faithfully as the State Secretary of South Carolina for more than 10 years. She was also a member of the Senior Queens Board.
She was a wonderful mother, a pillar in the community and to her family. She will be missed by all those who loved and knew her.
The youngest of her siblings, in addition to her parents, Gwen was preceded in death by her brothers, Elder Joseph Flournoy, Jr; and Latra Alvin Flournoy.
She is lovingly survived by three daughters, Lakeisa Flournoy, Sita Goodwin and Chiquita Goodwin, all of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Ma’Khalya Flournoy, Audreyah Flournoy, Andrew Flournoy and Brayden Smith-Flournoy, all of Columbia, SC; brother, Bruce Flournoy of Augusta, GA; sister-in-law, St. Linda Flournoy White of Scotia, SC; nephew, Bryan (Tara) Flournoy of Columbia, SC; special aunt, St. Libby Johnson of Charlotte, NC; and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss her, but rejoice that she is now free from pain.
