Gwendolyn Dillard Obituary

Gwendolyn L.C. Dillard affectionately known as “Ladoggie D” was born on March 10, 1955 in Columbia, SC to the Late Thomas “Skeebo” Chattman and Mary Helen Chattman. She went home to Glory on November 1, 2018.

Gwendolyn graduated from W.J. Keenan High School Class of 1973 where she was a proud member of the National Honor Society. She continued her education at Midlands Technical College where she graduated with honors and earned her degree in Business Finance. As an avid and faithful servant of the Lord she furthered her education as she earned her degree from Interdenominational Theological Center at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA on May 5, 2007.

On June 4, 1983, Gwendolyn went on to marry her best friend and love of her life CPT (Ret) Dr. Larry Dillard. From their union they were blessed with four beautiful children, Jerry Dillard (deceased), Kevin Dillard, Jennifer Dillard, and Fredricka Corbett.

She was a devoted woman of God and a faithful member of the Greater St. Luke Baptist Church where she served on various ministries and organizations throughout the church. She could always be called upon to deliver a powerful word of prayer and will be avidly remembered for preaching the Gospel of God wherever she goes.

Gwendolyn retired from Wachovia Bank in 1999 and the South Carolina Student Loan Corporation in 2015 after which she faithfully devoted herself to her family and pursuing her lifelong goals. Throughout her retirement she was able to accomplish several of these goals to include becoming certified in Dementia Care as well as traveling across the United States of America. Gwendolyn’s two favorite scriptures are Psalm 37:25 “Once I was young, and now I am old; Yet I have never seen the Godly abandoned or their children begging for bread”, and Matthew 6:33 “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” Gwendolyn will truly be missed by many as her heart was full of love and generosity, her spirit was welcoming and warm, and her soul was always dedicated to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Gwendolyn is survived by her loving husband of 35 years CPT (Ret) Dr. Larry Dillard of Columbia SC, beloved mother Mary H. Chattman of Columbia, SC; beloved siblings: brother Thomas Aubrey Chattman III, Columbia, SC, sister Wanda Phillips, Columbia SC, and brother Marvin Chattman, Columbia SC; beloved children: Son Kevin (Jessica) Dillard of Ft. Mitchell, AL, daughter’s Jennifer Dillard of Columbia, SC, and Fredricka (Roosevelt) Corbett of Atlanta, GA; beloved grandchildren: grandson Darrell Dillard of Prattville, AL, granddaughter Dasha Dillard of Prattville AL, grandson’s Elijha Dillard of Columbia SC, Kevin Dillard Jr. and Gabriel Dillard of Ft. Mitchell, AL, and one great grandchild Darrell Dillard Jr. of Prattville, AL, along with a host of beloved nieces, nephews, additional family and friends that she loved dearly. She rejoices in heaven with her grandmothers Lillian Wadsworth and Luscia M. Hartley, her father Thomas Chattman, her brother Titus Bernard Chattman, her brother Lucious C. Chattman, her son Jerry Dillard and her three grandchildren that prepared a Mansion for her in heaven above.

Gwendolyn went from labor to reward until her last breath and served God relentlessly, shamelessly, and faithfully. She will truly remain in our hearts forever.
