Gwendolyn Elizabeth Palmore Williams Brunson was born on April 10, 1960, in Greenwood, South Carolina. She was the beloved daughter of the late Early and Beatrice Williams Palmore. After the death of her parents, she was raised in the home of her grandparents, the late Pink and Lillian Dean Williams. She departed this life to be with the Lord on Friday, June 10, 2022, peacefully surrounded by her family at her residence in Elgin, South Carolina.
Gwen was affectionately known as Ma, Mama, Nani, Auntie, Sis, Big Red, and Little Gwen. She was educated in the public schools of Greenwood County, South Carolina, and graduated from Ninety-Six High School in the Class of 1978.
Gwendolyn was united in Holy Matrimony on July 21, 1980, to Michael Brunson, Sr. She served alongside her spouse as a dedicated military wife until his retirement in 1994. After many years of being a homemaker, Gwen started a career as a manager at Babies “R” Us, where she worked for 23 years before she retired. After retirement, she dedicated her time to serving in her church and the community.
Gwen accepted Christ at an early age. Her church home was Old Mount Zion Baptist in Epworth, SC. Upon relocating to Elgin, she became a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where she served as a member of the Trustee Board, Pastor’s Aide Committee, Pulpit Aide Committee, Women’s Ministry, and as a part of the Missionary Ministry. One of her most joyful works in the community was preparing meals for the less fortunate and serving them with a huge smile. In her free time, she enjoyed spending quality time with her family, talking on the phone, watching her favorite shows on tv, and watching her favorite cooking show families.
Gwen had a passion for serving God, and a heart for people. She operated in love and forgiveness. Gwen never met a stranger and considered everyone she met as family; she was everyone’s best friend. Her gift to all was her loving heart, and she went above and beyond to make someone smile or feel better. Gwen had a personal relationship with everyone she encountered; and she knew how to make a person feel seen and cared for. Gwen always spoke her mind and did not mind telling you like it was and afterwards, she would love on you with her whole heart. She was the rock to many and the glue to her family. She also enjoyed making a person feel warm by cooking a delicious meal for them and making sure they had enough. Gwen will be remembered for her faithfulness to God; and whenever there were obstacles to face, she overcame them by simply allowing God to fight her battles.
Gwen was also preceded in death by her son, Michael Roger Brunson, Jr.; her brother, Joe Morris Palmore; her bonus sister, Bessie Mae Childs, and her mother- in-law, Georgia Mae Brunson.
Those who will cherish Gwen’s fond and precious memories are her loving and devoted husband, Michael Brunson, Sr.; her sons, Corey (Sonovia) Williams and Taurean Brunson; and her daughter, LaTisha (Brandon) Cunningham; five grandchildren, Kinslee, Keston, Ta’Jeanna, Jayla, and JaCori; three brothers, Bernard Palmore, Barry (Michelle) Palmore, and Stanley (Jacqueline) Williams; sister, Lillian Starks; bonus brothers, Ernest (Elaine) Childs and Eddie Lee (Elizabeth) Childs; her father-in-law, Ramsey (Jewel) Brunson; sisters-in-law, Georgette (Michael) Coleman and Sheila Brunson; her four godsons, Jaspen, Daylin, Llandyn, and Reco; and a host of nephews, nieces and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom loved her and will dearly miss her.
