Gertrude H. Creech Obituary

Gertrude Helen Creech was born on September 23, 1943, in Columbia, South Carolina. She fell asleep in death on Sunday, January 18, 2026, in the comfort of her home surrounded by family.

Gertrude and her twin sister Gwendolyn were graduates of Booker T. Washington High School. They were both known as the Thompson Twins. After graduating from Benedict College, they moved to New York City. Gert, as she was affectionately called, began her career as a dedicated and caring nurse for over 30 years. Gert's life focused on helping others; and her patients loved and respected her dedication.

Gert dedicated her life to Jehovah as one of his Witnesses and was baptized on September 8, 1979. Gert truly loved Jehovah and enjoyed talking to anyone that would listen to her about his wonderful promises for the future. Deep study of God's word was her passion. She was an inspiration to so many, setting a pattern of integrity in serving her God, Jehovah.

Gert was married to the love of her life, Romie Creech, over 57 years, and a devoted mother to four children. Gertrude and Romie as she passionately called 'Bunkie,’ shared a deep unwavering love and their bond was undeniable. Whether traveling or simply enjoying a delicious meal, they made ordinary moments unforgettable. Their love was a blessing to witness.

Gert's love for her family was evident. She was the heart and soul of her family - fiercely loyal, protective, and full of life. Gert's loved her family with every fiber of her being and she showed it. She was an amazing cook and loved entertaining her family and friends.

Gert was an anchor to the family and gave us so much love. She was a sweet and selfless woman, a woman with a heart of gold. Gert was an amazing grandmother, mother, aunt and wife. Her kindness will never be forgotten.

She was the devoted mother who stood by them through every challenge and triumph, encouraging them with love and unwavering support. She was also a proud grandmother. She made sure they had new clothes for school, took them to appointments, and her grandchildren loved spending the weekends with their grandparents.

Gertrude enjoyed helping other family members succeed in life. If they needed a place to stay, she took them in, fed them, and helped them navigate through life challenges.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her twin sister, Gwendolyn H. Lawson.

Gertrude leaves to cherish her precious memory to her husband, Romie Creech; children, Randolph Creech, Ronnie ‘Bunkie’ Creech, Denise (Lawrence) Mincey and Romie ‘Tracy’ Creech; her niece, Lisa Blakely; Christopher Blakely; nephew, Kevin (Darlene) Carter; grandchildren, Candace Jones, Malcolm Creech, Randy (Amaria) Davis, Isaiah (Shanice) Davis, Jasmine Creech, Taisha (Raymond) Cox, Rasheem (Emily) Creech, Rommie Creech, Ramael Williams, Elijah Creech, Desirae (Andre) Coke, Miesha Cunningham, Donte’ Creech, De’Mario Creech, Romie ‘Davon’ Creech, Lafe’ (Lelia) Figgars, Ka’Dedra Creech, and Xavier Creech and a host of great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and other loving relatives and dear friends.
