Georgia Jones Obituary

Georgia Mae Jones was born on January 4, 1938 in Columbia, SC and departed this life on August 27,2020.

Georgia attended Booker T. Washington High School in Columbia, SC. She was a devoted christian and attended Mount Olive Baptist Church for over 40 years, where she sung in the choir and worked in various ministries. Georgia loved fishing, gardening, attending church, being around family and prepping delicious meals

She entered into the workforce at a young tender age. She worked at various dry cleaners and laundered services as a presser. Georgia Me was an extremely gifted and hard worker. She often did odd work to help and support her family. She was a self-taught seamstress who learned how to make bed linens and comforter sets. With her entrepreneur spirit she opened up a neighborhood “Candy Store” in Highland Forest, serving the world’s best “lick-ups”, infamous hotdogs and cheeseburgers.

Georgia was a mother to all who came in contact with her. With her sassy ways, wittiness and infectious smile that would light up any room. You may have come to her sad and down but she sent you away with a word from the Lord and Georgia. She loved people, laughing and serving others.

Georgia was preceded in death by her late husband, Robert Lee Jones; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Bates; brothers, Wilbur Bucchannan, Marion Jr., Jerry Bates and William Bates and her sister, Bessie Lee Bates.

Georgia leaves to mourn her passing her beloved children, Deborah Watts, and Tammy ( Julian) Faulk, Robert (Gabrielle) Miller and Antonio Jones; grandchildren, Troyano Watts, Dante Watts, Tunarie Watts, Deshon Cooper, Breon Jones, Daniel Miller , Dominique Dorrah, Grace and Elizabeth Miller; great-grandchildren,  Tamarie Watts, Tamira Watts, Skylar Jones and Journee Chanel; sisters, Mazelle Jones and Dorothy Cooke; brothers, Bobby Bates, Henry Bates, George Bates and Sherman Bates and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
